DessertFirst was inspired by a quote by Ernestine Ulmer, who said:
“Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.”
She wasn’t just talking about decadent indulgences. She was talking about the little pleasures in life that we often give up or pass over for “practicality’s sake” or because common sense dictates so. Now, if life worked out the way we wanted it to, that would make sense. But life is unpredictable, and too often we find ourselves wishing we had spent more time doing the things we love, singing in the shower, telling the people we love that we love them, dunking your cookies in milk, walking barefoot in grass – and eating dessert first.
Thankfully, it’s never too late to start fretting less and living more. DessertFirst was birthed along similar intentions. Of course, you don’t have to go start a baking business to live a little. You could start by having dessert first. Or any time you feel like it.

Crystal. 19 in February 2009. Lover of words, beauty, and magic. Dreamer of dreams. Currently finishing her last semester of a Diploma in Mass Communication at Life College. She does more than bake! She also writes, sings, takes photographs, and, occasionally, composes songs and dances.

She aims to accomplish this dream by means of writing, cupcakes, and chocolate chip cookies. On a continuous mission to find the truth underlying things, she believes that life would be meaningless without beauty, imagination, and most importantly, love.
Crystal would not be Crystal without prolonged periods of solitude with some means by which she can express her thoughts, be it a keyboard, a piece of paper, or her cell phone. Known to zone out when deep in thought, she cannot live without daily “alone time” or “me time” away from others to maintain her sanity. Beauty inspires her thoughts, from sunsets, to mountains, to vanilla ice-cream, to puppies, to imaginary worlds she creates for herself in pictures or in words.
Crystal loves the beauty of English language. She is captivated by words, sentences, paragraphs, and chapters, and reads and writes incessantly. Her other big loves in life are animals (she owns five hamsters), food, coffee, chocolate and reading about other countries. Crystal aspires to own a coffeehouse or bakery, after becoming a magazine editor or a travel journalist. However, she has resigned herself to the fact that she will probably never fit one job description but will instead juggle many hats – considering the many causes and interests she is passionate about.
Some day in the distant future, she hopes to own a cozy little bookstore with an adjoining coffee house complete with resident cat. Her dream house is by the countryside, with a quaint little garden and a big yard with a tree house. In her dreams, she will live in that house writing books while her dashing husband and her boys play outside in the yard.
